"Culturally competent organizing" seminar set Sept. 13

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa will present the latest in its Social Change Training series, "Culturally Competent Organizing", Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. until noon in the Kirkwood Room of the Iowa Memorial Union.

There is a fee of $10 to attend the workshop, but some scholarships are available. The deadline for registration is Sept. 11. To register, or for more information, call WRAC at (319) 335-1486 .

Seminar participants will learn practical ways to build to community, skills for creating inclusive organizations, and information about their own status as a culturally competent organizer. The trainers for the seminar are Salome Raheim, associate professor and associate director of the UI School of Social Work, and Diane Finnerty, diversity resource coordinator in the UI Office of Affirmative Action.
