WRAC offers support group for "Women wanting joy without another"

IOWA CITY, Iowa --"Women Wanting Joy Without Another" is an eight-week discussion group for women who want to break their dependency on another person and explore the issues of being single. Offered by the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa, the group will meet at 7 p.m. on Mondays beginning Sept. 8.

The group will discuss the messages given to women about being single. "Why is it that every magazine from Cosmo to Redbook to Ladies Home Journal to Time assumes that all women want to be married - or at least attached?" asks Sally Andrews, group facilitator. "This group will turn a critical eye to the magazines, books, movies, and ads that refuse to allow women to be single and be happy. The group will also explore how to move beyond those pressures."

"Women Wanting Joy Without Another" will also provide space for women to share their personal experiences about being single, being attached, and all of the emotions that accompany the different times.

For more information or to register, call the WRAC at (319) 335-1486.
