President Coleman slates "fireside chat" for Oct. 27

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The second in a series of "fireside chats" with University of Iowa President Mary Sue Coleman will be Monday, Oct. 27, from 7-9 p.m. in the Triangle Ballroom at the Iowa Memorial Union. The chats are designed to provide students with an opportunity to communicate their concerns and ideas directly to the UI president and her cabinet.

Invitations are being sent to 500 students chosen at random from the list of current students on record in the office of the registrar. The same process will be followed for issuing invitations to fireside chats to be held in January, February, March, April and May. However, all interested students may attend the chats.

This is the second year Coleman has held the informal discussions with students. Like last year, she will be accompanied by a vice president at each of the chats. Provost Jon Whitmore, the UI's chief academic officer, will participate in the Oct. 27 event.

The chats are being co-sponsored by the UI student government and the president's office.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of

Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to participate in this program, please contact University Relations at 335-0557.
