Iowa City project will affect traffic on Park Road, Dubuque Street

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- An Iowa City water main construction project will affect both vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the Park Road bridge and on Dubuque Street between Park Road and the University of Iowa's Mayflower Residence Hall beginning Thursday, Oct. 2 and continuing through most of November.

The construction project will reduce traffic on Park Road bridge to two lanes beginning Thursday morning, Oct. 2, until Oct. 11, weather permitting.

The next phase of the project, beginning about Oct. 13, will reduce Dubuque Street from the usual four lanes to two lanes from the Park Road bridge to the Mayflower.

In addition, the pedestrian sidewalk and bike path on the west side of Dubuque Street will be closed during the project. A pedestrian walkway and bike path will be created between the Mayflower and the main campus by using the eastern most lane of Dubuque Street. Concrete barriers will be set up to separate pedestrians and bikers from car and truck traffic.
