New group on alternative medicine for women offered by WRAC

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Wondering about aromatherapy? Chiropractic care? Massage therapy? Yoga? Women are exploring all of these alternatives to Western medicine in an ongoing discussion group offered by the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa.

The group explores resourceful ways to bring alternative medicine into awareness, says Melissa Doro, facilitator of "Alternative Medicine: A Woman's Perspective."

Doro began exploring alternative medicine when she found that going to a chiropractor offered relief from her chronic back pain. "I think we are all led to believe the myth that Western medicine can solve all our problems and that alternatives to Western medicine are 'out there.' This group is designed to dispel both of those myths through education and discussion."

The group, which features talks by and discussions with local practitioners of alternative healing methods, meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday at the Women's Resource and Action Center, 120 North Madison, Iowa City. To register or for more information, call (319) 335-1486.
