UI to host conference with residence hall leaders from seven states

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- More than 600 residence hall leaders from a seven-state region will descend on the University of Iowa when it hosts the annual conference of Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, Inc. (MACURH) Nov. 14-16.

The leadership conference features speakers, educational programs, entertainment, and information-sharing about student leadership, residence hall programming, and residence hall involvement. MACURH consists of about 50 member schools from Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Manitoba, Canada.

The UI won the right to host the conference through a competitive process. As part of its winning entry, the UI team developed a presentation including a written bid, a video, and an oral presentation.

This year's theme is "WWW.MACURH97.COM," which is intended to emphasize the importance of technology, especially the World Wide Web and the Internet. The conference will feature opportunities for participants to learn about making web pages and understanding how the Internet works.

Conference director is Mindy Giuffre, a UI senior majoring in elementary education. Conference committee members are: Michelle Bush, junior majoring in history and political science; Rhiannon Grantz, junior majoring in business; Carrie Patelski, junior majoring in psychology; Cyndy Severs, junior majoring in marketing and communications; Joel Imel, junior majoring in nursing; Tara Tefft, senior majoring in math education; Chad Doellinger, senior majoring in political science and philosophy; Jon Davis, senior majoring in communications; Eric Nemmers, junior majoring in English; Kristin Irlbacker, junior majoring in English; Christina McCready, senior majoring in biomedical engineering; Laura Milnes, junior majoring in elementary education; and Mike Crayne, junior majoring in English.
