Financial workshop for women examines privacy and credit

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) is co-sponsoring a financial workshop, "Privacy and Credit: Who's Got Your Number?" on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center.

This is the second event in the "Women and Money: Putting the Pieces Together" financial workshop series. Topics will include how to shop for credit, the costs of credit, how to deal with credit, why we should care about privacy, how to reduce the risk of fraud, and what laws protect us in credit and fraud situations.

Workshop leaders are Janet Garkey, family resource management specialist with the Iowa State University Extension, and Scott Shook, director of the consumer credit counseling program at the Family Service Agency in Cedar Rapids. Both have extensive experience presenting programs to educate individuals and families about money management.

Pre-registration by Nov. 7 is required. A $10 fee also is requested to cover the cost of materials. Some scholarships are available. For more information, call the Iowa Women's Foundation at (319) 337-4222.

This women's financial workshop series is co-sponsored by the Iowa Women's Foundation, Johnson County Extension Service, Focus Forward, Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, and WRAC.
