UI Student Alumni Ambassadors honored

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Alumni Association's Student Alumni Ambassadors were honored for their service to the Iowa City community and the UI when Make-a-Wish Gameday Day II was named program of the year at the Student Alumni Association/Student Foundation (SAA/SF) District V Conference April 19 in Madison, Wis.

The annual Gameday was held in September and provided seriously ill Make-a-Wish children and their families a day-long outing at the Iowa-Arizona game at Kinnick Stadium.

According to Co-Chair Angela Osdoba, many children don't have the chance to attend Hawkeye games, and the Gameday provided that opportunity for seriously ill children. The day included a tailgate party and a postgame rally that featured the UI cheerleaders, the dance team, Hawkeye coaches and players.

The SAA/SF Network is a program of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education that seeks to promote the involvement of students in alumni relations, communications and philanthropy.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing activities for terminally and severely ill children and their families. Gameday was sponsored by the UI athletic department, Wendy's Restaurants of Iowa City, First National Center, Ltd., of Cedar Rapids and the Iowa City Holiday Inn.
