Allergy sufferers are invited to participate in drug comparison study

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- If the smell of freshly cut grass brings tears to your eyes and an itch to your throat, you may be eligible to participate in a University of Iowa College of Medicine allergy study.

The department of internal medicine is conducting a study to compare the effectiveness of two Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved allergy medications. People with moderate to severe spring allergies are invited to enter the study. Participants will be asked to stop taking allergy medication prior to their visits.

Interested participants must first complete a screening visit to determine eligibility. People who qualify will be asked to report to City Park, where they will remain from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each person will take study medications and record his/her allergy symptoms throughout the day.

Compensation is available. Participants will receive lunch and a T-shirt. For more information, call 356-1659 (locally) or 800-356-1659.
