UI doctoral accounting student awarded scholarship
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa doctoral student Nichole D. Thorne
has been awarded one of 18 national $10,000 KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation
Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarships for the 1996-97 academic year.
The scholarship is renewable for up to five years at $10,000 a year.
Thorne completed her undergraduate studies at Drexel University in Philadelphia,
Pa., and is a certified public accountant. Before entering the UI College
of Business Administration's doctorate program, she worked as a senior
auditor for five years at Price Waterhouse in Washington, D.C.
Started in 1993, the Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarship Program
is part of a commitment by the KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation to increase
minority representation not only in accounting programs at colleges and
universities, but in the American work force as well.
The scholarship program represents African, Hispanic and Native Americans.
