UI researcher appointed to American Psychological Association committee
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Frank L. Schmidt, the Ralph L. Sheets Professor of
Management and Organizations at the University of Iowa College of Business
Administration, has been appointed to serve on the American Psychological
Association's Committee on Scientific Awards. He will serve through 1999.
Schmidt's research focuses on personnel testing, selection and placement.
In addition to his research and teaching, Schmidt has done personnel research
for more than 20 for-profit and non-profit organizations including Chrysler
Corporation and the Congressional Office of Technology. He is on the editorial
board of the Journal of Applied Psychology.
While at the UI, Schmidt has served as a member of the Faculty Research
Committee, the Faculty Senate and the College Library and Publications
Committee. He has been a member and chair of the College Promotion and
Tenure Committee and served as vice president of the Elected Faculty Council.
He is a member of the Iowa Business Editorial Board. He has authored numerous
research studies and books.
The Committee on Scientific Awards recognizes and honors psychologists
who have made distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to basic
research in psychology or empirical advances leading to the understanding
of important practical problems.
The American Psychological Association, in Washington, D.C., is the
largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology
in the United States and is the world's largest association of psychologists.
