IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Six University of Iowa staff members have received 1997 Mary Jo Small Fellowships.

The fellowships -- offered through Staff Development and Training -- support staff course work, travel to regional, national, or international meetings and workshops, training opportunities off-campus, or release time to prepare publications or reports. Recipients were chosen on the basis of how their request would enhance their career and contribution to the UI.

The 1997 awardees are:

Julie Hausman, curator of visual materials in art and art history, $1,022 to attend a workshop on digital imaging;

Pamela Dostle, chemist IV in the University Hygienic Lab, $1,450 to attend a workshop on indoor air quality, health care exposures, and agricultural bioaerosols;

Rebecca Parales, assistant research scientist in microbiology, $217 to help defray costs to attend a conference on molecular biology and biotechnology of pseudomonas;

Victoria Rovine, curator of the arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas in the Museum of Art, $750 to help defray the expenses of traveling to Mali to complete planning for a major exhibition of contemporary African art and fashion, scheduled to open in the museum in spring 1999; and

Kathy Walters, research assistant III in the Central Microscopy Research Facility, $600 to help defray the cost of attending a conference of the National Society for Histotechnology.
