Mary Jo Small Fellowship helps support UI staff careers
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Six University of Iowa staff members have received
1997 Mary Jo Small Fellowships.
The fellowships -- offered through Staff Development and Training --
support staff course work, travel to regional, national, or international
meetings and workshops, training opportunities off-campus, or release time
to prepare publications or reports. Recipients were chosen on the basis
of how their request would enhance their career and contribution to the
The 1997 awardees are:
Lois Friday, administrative assistant in computer science, $461 to help
defray expenses to attend a computing and technology conference;
Julie Hausman, curator of visual materials in art and art history, $1,022
to attend a workshop on digital imaging;
Pamela Dostle, chemist IV in the University Hygienic Lab, $1,450 to
attend a workshop on indoor air quality, health care exposures, and agricultural
Rebecca Parales, assistant research scientist in microbiology, $217
to help defray costs to attend a conference on molecular biology and biotechnology
Victoria Rovine, curator of the arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas
in the Museum of Art, $750 to help defray the expenses of traveling to
Mali to complete planning for a major exhibition of contemporary African
art and fashion, scheduled to open in the museum in spring 1999; and
Kathy Walters, research assistant III in the Central Microscopy Research
Facility, $600 to help defray the cost of attending a conference of the
National Society for Histotechnology.
The awardees will be recognized at the fall University Convocation.
