UI recognizes top two liberal arts students

(ATTN: DES MOINES AND CEDAR FALLS EDITORS: A student from your readership area has received a prestigious University of Iowa scholarship. The information below includes the student's name and major, and the parents' names.)

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A psychology major from Cedar Falls and a biochemistry major from West Des Moines have received awards for being the top two students in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts.

Judith P. Aikin, dean of the college, has announced that Kara J. Deaver, daughter of Gerald Deaver of Cedar Falls, and Tiffany Rae Tedore, daughter of John and Phyllis Tedore of West Des Moines, are the winners of the Ernest R. Johnson Memorial Prizes. Both students will graduate this May.

Deaver and Tedore were chosen from a pool of UI students who graduated in August or December 1996, or will graduate this May, and who have 4.0 grade point averages. In order to be considered, students must have earned the right to graduate with "highest distinction," an honor bestowed to the top two percent of graduating seniors in the college.
