MBA Career Resource Center opens at UI College of Business Administration
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- In its continuing effort to provide first-rate placement
for graduates and stay abreast of new technology, the University of Iowa
College of Business Administration announces the opening of the MBA Career
Located in Room S124 of the Pappajohn Business Administration Building,
the center offers new technology and programs to first- and second-year
MBA students to assist in their job searches.
New career development software allows students to match interests and
abilities with those of career professionals to discover how well suited
they may be for a particular job. The center can also guide students to
Internet services that assess thinking and decision-making, achievement
motives, and emotional styles in relationship to career opportunities.
"We're trying to help students plan strategically," said director
of MBA Career Services Kathie Decker. "In addition to offering what
we believe are road maps for career success, we're making practical networking
available as well."
One of the networking resources is a database of more than 500 MBA alumni
who can be located by firm, city or state. The MBA alumni have volunteered
to help students with their job searches.
The resource center provides a haven for MBA students when other libraries
and labs may be full. It gives students a place to perform a variety of
tasks--from printing resumes and conducting electronic job searches to
evaluating their interviewing skills.
According to Decker, the resource center reflects a national trend of
specializing career services. "The career needs of MBA students are
much different than those of undergraduates in business and other fields,"
she said. "We've opened this center to provide our students with everything
they need in one place."
