State lawmakers update educators June 10 at UI-based institute
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A group of state lawmakers will discuss the recent
session of the Iowa General Assembly Tuesday, June 10 during a half-day
seminar on legislative issues sponsored by the Institute for School Executives
of the University of Iowa College of Education.
Senators Wally Horn, D-Cedar Rapids, and Michael Connolly, D-Dubuque,
and Rep. Philip Wise, D-Keokuk, will take part in a panel discussion beginning
at 1:30 p.m. at the University Athletic Club, 1360 Melrose Ave.
The lawmakers will be joined by Ann Molis, policy consultant of the
Iowa Department of Education. The hour-long discussion will be followed
by a question-and-answer period.
The panel discussion is part of ISE's annual Legislative Update Seminar,
which begins with lunch at noon.
Sessions are open to the public, but require advance registration. Fees
are $20 for members of ISE and $40 for non-members. Prices include lunch.
Sessions begin at 12:45 p.m. Bob Bowlsby, director of UI Men's Intercollegiate
Athletics, will welcome conference participants at 1:15 p.m.
Mike Kortemeyer, superintendent of the Louisa-Muscatine Community School
District, will moderate the panel discussion.
