IOWA CITY, Iowa -- David Curry, head of the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa Libraries, retired June 30 after 21 years in the position. Prior to his appointment at the Hardin Library, he served as engineering librarian and mathematics librarian from 1972 to 1975.

The Hardin Library supports the information needs of the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Information Commons, a high-technology multimedia classroom and development facility, opened at Hardin in August 1996.

Curry has been active in Iowa and nationally in the medical library profession and is immediate past president of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries. He was principal investigator on a grant from the National Library of Medicine for planning the integration of information systems in the University of Iowa's Health Sciences Center and for a U.S. Department of Education grant to provide electronic access to health sciences databases and documents to 10 educational institutions in Iowa.

In the spring of 1984, Curry held a Fulbright lectureship in Egypt where he lectured and provided consulting services to a number of Egyptian libraries. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Brown University in 1961 and a master's degree in library science from Long Island University.
