UI Press names new marketing director

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sarah Anne Walz, formerly advertising manager at the University of North Carolina Press, has recently been named the new marketing director for the University of Iowa Press.

Walz, a native of Prairie du Chien, Wis., will oversee sales and promotion of scholarly books, original fiction and original poetry published by the UI Press.
"I'm delighted to be joining a Press that has such an impressive list," Walz said. "The UI Press is well-known for its list in environmental studies, fiction, poetry and regional studies."

Walz succeeds Kate Capps, who became sales director at the Rutgers University Press.

Prior to her appointment at the UI Press, Walz was advertising manager at the University of North Carolina Press from 1995-96. She was advertising manager and direct mail manager at the University of Nebraska Press from 1991 to 1995. From 1990-91, she was advertising assistant at the University of Wisconsin Press.

Walz holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is a member of Women in Scholarly Publishing.

The UI Press issued its first title in 1938, but did not begin publishing regularly until 1969. It annually publishes more than 30 titles aimed at scholars as well as general readers with interests in particular topics. The UI Press is also home to the annual Iowa Poetry Prize and the Iowa Short Fiction awards.
