UI offers unusual drawing to aid United Way at Chamber's Business Fair
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will conduct a prize drawing with
an unusual twist during the annual Iowa City/Coralville Chamber of Commerce
Business Fair, Friday through Sunday, Jan. 17-19, at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Instead of getting a prize directly, the winner will have $1,000 donated in
his or her name to a Johnson County United Way agency.
In keeping with this year's United Way theme, "Share the Magic,"
anyone visiting the United Way booth at the Business Fair may enter the drawing
by designating which one of 39 United Way agencies they would like to be the
recipient of the UI donation. People who wish to make their own donation to
the Johnson County United Way may do so at the booth, but no donation is required
to participate in the drawing.
The drawing of the name of the "benefactor" will be made Jan. 27,
when directors of Johnson County United Way agencies are scheduled to meet
at the Iowa City Public Library.
In addition to the unusual drawing, the United Way booth at the Business Fair
will offer silhouette drawings, which proved to be a popular activity for
children at last year's fair.
