UI accounting student receives prestigious doctoral fellowship

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- UI doctoral accounting student Paul Hribar has received a $20,000 fellowship from the Deloitte and Touche Foundation.

Hribar is one of 10 recipients nationwide of the 1997 Doctoral Fellowship in Accounting Awards. The fellows each receive $20,000 over a two-year period toward their pursuit of a doctoral degree program in accounting at an accredited university.

With a major in accounting and a minor in finance, Hribar is studying the characteristics of accounting data that help investors determine the "true" value of a company. He holds a bachelor's of management from the University of Lethbridge in Canada, and a master's of science in accounting from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Hribar began the doctorate program at the UI in the fall of 1995.

This is the second consecutive year that a UI student has received the Deloitte and Touche award. Recipients are selected by an independent committee of educators.

Since 1956, the Deloitte and Touche Foundation has offered 900 doctoral fellowships to graduate students pursuing doctoral programs in accounting at accredited universities. A professional services firm, the foundation provides accounting, auditing, and tax and management consulting services in offices in more than 100 U.S. cities.
