Panel at UI reinforces importance of internships
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A panel of four business representatives and three UI
students who recently completed internships will talk about internships Monday,
Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Room W151 of the Pappajohn Business Administration
Building. The program is free and open to the public.
The purpose is to let students know what to expect in an internship and to
encourage them to actively seek an internship before graduation. Career Development
Services Coordinator Jane Schildroth said her office is trying to get students
to think about internships sooner.
"Many employers will hire interns as full-time employees," Schildroth
said. "There's more to an internship than being a 'gofer' and it can
be the edge that will land you a job."
Representatives from Andersen Consulting, UI Hospitals and Clinics Financial
Management, Proctor and Gamble and Price Waterhouse will be available to answer
questions and to give tips on how to find internships.
As many as 200 students have attended past panel discussions. The program
is sponsored by the College of Business Administration Undergraduate Programs
Office, Career Development Services and the Business and Liberal Arts Placement
