WHAT: Release of 1997 Cancer in Iowa, the State Health Registry of Iowa's annual report on cancer in Iowa.10th anniversary of the University of Iowa Cancer Information Service.

WHO: Dr. Charles Lynch, UI associate professor of preventive medicine and environmental health and principal investigator of the State Health Registry of Iowa.

Dr. Charles Riggs Jr., medical director of the UI John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center.

1997 Cancer in Iowa, the State Health Registry of Iowa' s annual report on the status of cancer in Iowa, outlines cancer projections for 1997. The report contains estimates of how many Iowans will be diagnosed with cancer this year, what the most common types of cancer will be, and how many Iowans will die from cancer.

In addition, the UI Cancer Information Service is marking its 10th anniversary of service to Iowans. Dr. Charles Riggs will share information on the assistance this service has provided throughout the decade, as well as unveil a new cancer prevention booklet that will be available to anyone free-of-charge.

This news conference does not conflict with any of the UI sesquicentennial events scheduled for Feb. 25.
