UI to host discussion prior to premiere of documentary on schizophrenia
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Psychiatrists at the University of Iowa College of Medicine
and the UI Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) will host a roundtable discussion
before the premiere of a documentary film on schizophrenia Thursday, Feb.
20, at Hancher Auditorium. The discussion will be in the Green Room from 7-7:30
p.m., and the film will be shown in the auditorium at 8 p.m.
Dr. Nancy Andreasen, UI professor of psychiatry and director of the Mental
Health Clinical Research Center (MHCRC) at the UIHC, and her colleagues will
offer a discussion of the film, "I'm Still Here...The Truth About Schizophrenia,"
and will answer questions.
"I'm Still Here" features a number of Iowans affected directly
and indirectly by schizophrenia, as well as UI psychiatrists and staff at
the MHCRC who treat patients with the disease. The film was directed by Robert
Bilheimer, an Academy Award nominee for his South African documentary, "The
Cry of Reason."
The pre-film discussion and the premiere showing are free and open to the
public. Complimentary tickets for the premiere are required. Ticket reservations
