Friends of the UI Libraries Advisory Board elect new members

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- W. Richard (Dick) Summerwill, president and chief executive officer of the Iowa State Bank and Trust in Iowa City, is serving a second term as board chair of the 1997 Friends of the UI Libraries Advisory Board. Three new board members include Jeffrey A. Disterhoft of Iowa City, Lois H. Eichacher of Fort Madison and

Brian Strayer of Minneapolis, Minn.

Summerwill has been chair of the UI Libraries and a member of the development committee. He also serves on the board of the Regina Foundation, the Mercy hospital Foundation and Iowa Plus.

Disterhoft is vice president of finance at the University of Iowa Community Credit Union and serves as the chairman of the public policy committee for the Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. His other civic involvement includes serving on the financial review committee for the Cedar Rapids Chapter of the United Way, and serving as treasurer and a member of the board of directors of Senior Advocates, Inc., and the March of Dimes.

Eichacher is the retired executive director of the Southeast Iowa Community Action Organization, Inc., a four-county, rural anti-poverty agency headquartered in Burlington. She serves on the Iowa Commission on Community Action Agencies, the Iowa Department of Economic Development (vice chair), the Council on Human Investment, the Iowa Black Alumni Association (vice chair), and is a member of the Institute for Social and Economic Development's board of directors. She is past president of the University of Iowa Alumni Association's board of directors.

In 1994 Eichacher was named to the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame. She has received the Region 7 Bob Tyson Outstanding Partner in Community Action Award and the annual award from the Iowa Community Action Neighborhood Center in Fort Madison that is named after her.

Strayer is an engineering manager in Minneapolis for Seagate Technology, a manufacturer of computer data storage products. He holds a master's degree in physics and an MBA from the UI, and a bachelor's degree from Drake University.

He has supported the UI Alumni Association by serving as the president of the Twin Cities Iowa Alumni Club for the past four years.

Creth, ex officio, University Librarian.
