UI College of Dentistry names assistant dean for patient services

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Officials at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry have named Dr. Stephen J. Stefanac assistant dean for patient services and professor in the department of oral pathology, radiology and medicine. Stefanac will join the college effective June 1, 1998.

Currently an associate professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, Stefanac is an accomplished clinician, instructor and administrator. He is director of oral medicine for the school's department of diagnostic and surgical sciences and has held a variety of clinic oversight positions.

At the UI, Stefanac will oversee operations and develop policy for the college's clinics and other patient care programs. More than 25,000 patients receive dental care at the college each year.

Stefanac succeeds Dr. Daniel Hall, UI professor emeritus, who retired last October.

A native of Detroit, Stefanac received his dental degree at the University of Detroit in 1980 and a master's degree in oral diagnosis and radiology at the University of Michigan in 1987.
