UI offers graduate courses in library science over the ICN

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- How computers and other technology are affecting the way libraries work is the subject of a graduate-level course in library and information science offered by the University of Iowa at sites around the state beginning in January.

"Information Science and Technology" is one of two courses in library and information science available at locations throughout Iowa over the Iowa Communications Network (ICN).

The courses, offered by the UI School of Library and Information Science and the Division of Continuing Education, are designed for students interested in doing graduate work in the field.

The courses include:

-- "Information Science and Technology," a three-credit-hour course that explores the use of technology to represent, manipulate, retrieve and present information. The course will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 21 at these sites: Bettendorf, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, West Burlington and the University of Iowa.

-- "Management of Libraries and Information Centers," a three-credit-hour course on planning, goal setting, evaluation, and funding of library and information center programs and services. The course meets from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, beginning Jan. 26 at these sites: Bettendorf, Burlington, Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, and the University of Iowa.

Tuition for graduate credit is $170 per hour.

ICN sites may be subject to change and some sites may be added, depending on availability and interest.

The UI Division of Continuing Education also coordinates a wide range of graduate programs for those seeking advanced degrees in education, nursing, business, social work and pharmacy.
