Safe bicycling day features info on maintenance, etiquette and prizes

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Information on bicycle etiquette, maintenance, local bike trails and free prizes, including a Trek 820 mountain bike, will highlight a "Safe Bicycling Day," Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Hubbard Field, across from the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus.

Student-run KRUI radio will broadcast from the site throughout the event.

The goal of the event is to help bicyclists on the UI campus become better acquainted with bike safety and etiquette issues. Free bicycle registration will be provided; local bicycle shops will be there for advice on bikes and bike maintenance; and local bicycle clubs will have advice on bikes, bike routes and trails, and bike rides.

Currently registered UI students may sign up to win the Trek 820 mountain bike. Additional prizes donated by the bike shops will be given away throughout the day.
