UI program offers seminar on financial management for business Sept. 18

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Helping business people with limited training in financial management learn the basics of accounting is the goal of a new seminar Thursday,

Sept. 18 at the University of Iowa College of Business Administration.

"Fundamentals of Accounting for Non-Financial Managers," presented by the UI Office of Management and Business Development, will meet in Room W401 of the Pappajohn Business Administration Building.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The course begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. There is an hour break for lunch.

The course is designed for people in management, administration, production, marketing, and other areas who have limited or no formal training in accounting.

The seminar will include an introduction to accounting and accounting reports with a special emphasis on understanding the application of accounting to standard business operations. Participants will learn how financial tools are used in day-to-day decisions through hands-on practice with the language of business.

Registration fees are $225 per person. For two or more people from the same company or organization, the fee is $200 per person.

Byron Ross, adjunct professor, and Ann O'Brien, a lecturer, both in the UI department of accounting, will teach the course. Both are certified public accountants.
