UI to host annual meeting of Iowa Biotechnology Association
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will host the annual conference
of the Iowa Biotechnology Association on Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Iowa Memorial
Union on the UI campus.
The theme of this year's conference is "Growing Biotechnology Companies
in Iowa." The event will include sessions on international opportunities,
patents, strategic partnerships and outsourcing, and developing partnerships
with Iowa universities.
The keynote speaker for the conference will be Dr. Ashwin Madia, director
of biotechnology research for Cargill, Inc. of Minneapolis.
During the conference, attendees will tour the UI Center for Biocatalysis,
the UI Center for Advanced Drug Development and the UI Division of Pharmaceutical
The Iowa Biotechnology Association was formed in 1994 to represent the biotechnology
industry, the research institutions and universities with which it collaborates,
and the professional services upon which it draws. The mission of the association
is to foster the growth of the biotechnology industry in Iowa.
Last year, the national Biotechnology Industry Organization ranked the state
of Iowa 15th in the nation in the number of biotechnology companies.
