Diane Kenney Handler will be coordinator of UI Arts Share program

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa has appointed Diane Kenney Handler as coordinator of the university's Arts Share program.

Arts Share is a UI program that provides artistic expertise from the Iowa Center for the Arts to schools, local arts councils, community arts associations, museums, senior citizen centers and other organizations throughout Iowa and the surrounding region.

Kenney Handler holds a master's degree in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston and a bachelor's degree in international relations from Boston University. Most recently, she was the media relations manager for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that she served as director of marketing and program development for the Merit Music Program, a music school in Chicago that offers atuition-free music program and music education opportunities for the Chicago public schools.

Leslie B. Sims, UI dean of graduate studies and the coordinator of the Iowa Center for the Arts, commented: "Kenney Handler's experience in Chicago provides an excellent background for coordinating the Arts Share program.

"Through the Arts Share program, we remain dedicated to sharing the talents of UI artists with the people of Iowa."

The Arts Share program currently provides students and faculty artists from five creative arts programs at the UI: The School of Art and Art History, the Writers' Workshop, the dance department, the School of Music and the department of theatre arts. Individual artists and groups, including musical ensembles and a dance company, will be available for workshops, classes, demonstrations and performances.
