UI's Hirst is next president of national independent study group

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Kristin Hirst, course developer at the University of Iowa Division of Continuing Education, will become the president of the American Association for Collegiate Independent Study when the group holds its national convention in November.

Hirst, who also teaches in Continuing Education's Center for Credit Programs, is currently president-elect of the organization.

The American Association for Collegiate Independent Study was founded in 1993 as an organization devoted to the professional development of administrators, staff, faculty and others in the field of college-level independent study.

Currently, Hirst is the chair of the committee in charge of programming for the annual conference, which will be held in Athens, Ga.

As president, Hirst will preside over the administration of the 400-member group.
