WRAC offers discussion group for lesbian and bisexual women

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Women in Touch" is a weekly group for lesbian and bisexual women to reflect on the impact of sexism and homophobia in their lives. The group, which will begin meeting Tuesday, Aug. 5, and continue meeting for six weeks, is sponsored by the Women's Resource and Action Center at the University of Iowa.

"Women in Touch" was designed by Affirmations: Gay and Lesbian Cultural Center in Detroit, Mich. The group will discuss such topics as early childhood experiences, body image, friendships, dating, relationships, intimacy, sexuality, and the lesbian/bisexual women's community.

The Women's Resource and Action Center has used the outline designed by Affirmations for the past three years, and has a trained facilitator leading the group, says Courtney Reed Jenkins, support group coordinator for WRAC. "This group has been very successful and helpful to lesbian and bisexual women in the Iowa City community," she adds. "It provides a safe space for lesbian and bisexual women to explore issues that are integral to their daily lives. It also simultaneously builds community among women."

Meetings will be held at the Women's Resource and Action Center, 130 North Madison (across from the Iowa Memorial Union) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information or to register, phone (319) 335-1486 .
