UI state fair exhibit highlights engineering, medicine

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Poplar trees, an electric motorcycle, health screenings and a driving simulator model are among the highlights of the University of Iowa exhibit at the 1997 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines Aug. 7-17.

The exhibit will focus on the contributions by engineering and medicine to teaching, research and service at the UI. Coordinated by the UI Alumni Association and University Relations, the display will also feature joint research projects and the UI entrepreneurial program. The exhibit was created by audiovisual graphics staff members Jerry Best, design artist; Diana Brayton, Todd Erickson and Juanita Ridenour, graphics specialists; and undergraduate students Chris Wilkins of Iowa City, Lisa Kalb of Dubuque and Christopher Larsen of Wellman.

Athletic schedules, admissions information, and Hancher Auditorium season brochures will be available at the booth, in addition to a variety of other information and publications. Admissions staff will be on hand each day to answer questions.

Research by engineering faculty and students, as well as teaching innovations in medicine and engineering will be displayed. Student members of Theta Tau national professional engineering fraternity will be present. Both colleges will offer a sneak peek at plans for their new facilities.
