Local woman graduates from UI Pre-Vocational Training Program

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Student name) of (hometown) is one of nine women who recently graduated from the University of Iowa Pre-Vocational Training Program.

The UI Pre-Vocational Training Program offers women a free, 12-week program designed to help them enter such skilled trades as construction, maintenance, repair, technical and other non-traditional fields.

The program includes physical conditioning, safety training, technical mathematics and career development. Students also participate in work experiences in the maintenance and technical shops on the UI campus.

Women who complete the pre-vocational training typically go on to trade or technical schools, enter apprenticeship programs or other entry-level employment.

The UI program is the only one of its kind in the country associated with a university.
