UI book conservator's apprentice wins award for book

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A book that chronicles a University of Iowa graduate's work with a UI book conservator is one of the winners of the 1996 Minnesota Voices Writing Project Competition.

Annie Tremmel Wilcox, who teaches workshops in the book arts through the UI Center for the Book, was cited for her book, "A Degree of Mastery: A Journey Through Craft Apprenticeship."

The book, which will be published by New Rivers Press of Minneapolis, details Wilcox's apprenticeship with William Anthony in the conservation department of the UI Main Library.

Wilcox earned her doctorate in English from the UI department in 1994.

In addition to her teaching with the Center for the Book, Wilcox also teaches book arts and writing in the UI Center for Credit Programs and has a private book conservation practice.
