UI researcher receives prestigious award
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A University of Iowa College of Medicine researcher has
been designated as one of three scientists in the nation to receive an American
Society of Hypertension/Hoechst Marion Roussel 1997 Young Scholars Award.
The award provides $10,000 that primarily aids research.
Dr. Curt Sigmund, assistant professor of internal medicine, is currently
studying the molecular genetics of hypertension, or high blood pressure. The
award recognizes Sigmund's work on the development of transgenic models for
studying hypertension, and for his studies regarding the regulation of genes
controlling blood pressure. "The financial aid and recognition of my
research is very gratifying," Sigmund says.
Sigmund will receive the award in May during a presentation at the annual
American Society of Hypertension meeting in San Francisco.
