University of Iowa presents American Prairie art exhibit in Omaha

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Alumni Association and the UI Art Museum will present "Plain Pictures: Images of the American Prairie" Thursday, April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha.

The art exhibit will feature Stephen Prokopoff, director of the UI Art Museum, and Joni Kinsey, assistant professor at the UI School of Art and Art History.

"Plain Pictures: Images of the American Prairie" opened Aug. 17, 1996 at the UI Museum of Art where the show broke museum attendance records. The original exhibit contained 86 images selected from private and public collections across the country and is the first major art exhibition devoted to the culture of American grasslands.

From Iowa the show traveled to the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, where the show's curator was interviewed by CBS Sunday Morning. The segment was aired nationwide in January. The show at the Joslyn Art Museum is the exhibition's final venue.

The show will be hosted by the Council Bluffs/Omaha Iowa Club.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Alumni Center at 1-800-IOWALUM (469-2586).
