Four UI seniors share Sanxay Prize for graduate studies

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Four University of Iowa seniors will share the 1997 Sanxay Prize, awarded each year by the UI Graduate College to a UI senior or seniors who show promise of high achievement in graduate studies.

This year's winners, who will each receive a cash stipend of $500, are Nathan Baker, a chemistry major from Sioux City; Sarah Holstein, a chemistry major from Iowa City; Rachel McMullin, classics major from Grinnell; and Thomas Stricker, biological sciences major from Bettendorf.

The Sanxay Prize, first awarded in 1926, is made possible by the trust fund of Theodore F. Sanxay. Award winners must be a native or resident of Iowa. The award carries a cash stipend that may be used to pursue graduate work at the UI or any other accredited university in the United States or abroad.

The award winners will be recognized and receive a certificate at the Senior Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 27.
