Applications being accepted for UI summer study abroad programs
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa students can study everything from
printmaking in Italy to environmental studies in Slovenia by participating
in summer study abroad programs being offered through the UI Office of International
Education and Services (OIES) Study Abroad Center.
Applications are still being accepted for certain study abroad programs taking
place this summer. Programs still open include "Printmaking and Drawing
in Venice," "London Performance Study," "Environmental
Studies in Slovenia," "Historic Organ Culture in Colonial Mexico"
and "Summer Program in Nigeria."
"These are excellent opportunities for students who might not be able
to spend a semester or year abroad, "said Janis Perkins, UI Study Abroad
Center director and OIES assistant director.
Students who think they would like to participate in one of the summer programs
should call the Study Abroad Center at (319)335-0353, or visit the Study Abroad
Center resource room in the UI International Center, Rm. 28.
OIES provides foreign student advising and educational and study abroad programming
and works to increase the cross-cultural understanding and skills of UI students,
faculty and community members. About 2,000 foreign students and scholars representing
an estimated 100 countries study and work at the UI, and each year more than
400 UI students study abroad in exchanges in more than 35 countries.
(EDITORS NOTE: If you wish to interview a UI student who has studied abroad
through a summer program, please call Lois Gray, OIES international media
coordinator, at (319)335-2026.)
