Annual American Indian Pow Wow to be held April 11-13 at UI
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- American Indian dance performances and contests are among
an array of events scheduled for this year's Pow Wow at the University of
Iowa, beginning Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 13, in the Recreation
Building located on Stadium Drive.
Admission to the Pow Wow is $8 for adults and $6 for children for a one-day
pass. Weekend passes are $15 for adults and $10 for children. The event is
sponsored by the UI American Indian Student Association (AISA).
Vendors from tribes across the United States and Canada will offer food,
finely crafted jewelry, blankets, rugs, pottery, clothing and other Native
American crafts in the Arts and Crafts Expo running throughout the Pow Wow.
The Pow Wow begins with grand entries of dance performers in sessions beginning
at 7 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. Contests will
be held in categories such as senior men's and women's traditional, men's
and women's traditional, teens, children, men's grass, women's jingle, men's
fancy bustle, women's fancy shawl, hand drums and clowns. Winners will receive
A Pow Wow session for children of all ages will be held from 1-3 p.m. Friday,
free of charge. Area schools have been invited to attend.
