UI to host April 2-3 water resources and design conference

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa department of civil and environmental engineering and the Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research (IIHR) will co-sponsor the 35th Annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Environmental and Water Resources Design Conference to be held Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 3 at the Highlander Inn, Iowa City.

Approximately 120 persons -- mostly civil, environmental and water resources engineers -- are expected to attend the conference which is aimed at increasing the knowledge of professionals in such fields as water resources management, erosion control, drinking water treatment and remediation of contaminated groundwater. The conference will focus on the management and engineering challenges involved in water resources issues with the goal of ensuring the continued health and welfare of the citizens of Iowa through the protection of water resources.

Conference participants will include UI College of Engineering Dean Richard K. Miller, V.C. Patel, professor of mechanical engineering and IIHR director, and Forrest M. Holly, Jr., Jacob Odgaard, Wayne Paulson, Allen Bradley, Jr., Gene Parkin, and Larry Weber, all professors in the department of civil and environmental engineering. Also Tatsuaki Nakato and J. Kent Johnson, IIHR research scientists, and Connie Mutel, IIHR program associate. Other Iowa City participants will include Ronald Kuzniar and Dana Kolpin of the U.S. Geological Survey, Lou Licht of Ecolotree, Inc., Sulo Wiitala of Shive-Hattery, Inc., and Oscar Lara of Environmental Intelligence.
